Now that the hustle and bustle of the Holidays is behind us, it’s time to focus on getting your home organized and back in order. Whether or not you are planning to sell your home this year, below are some tips and resolutions to help organize while saving time and energy.
Organize the Pantry – Time to throw out the expired foods, and donate other foods, that you won’t eat, to a local food pantry. Then, organize and consolidate the rest of your foods by category: baking supplies, snacks, breakfast foods, crackers…that way you can get right to what you are looking for, and not grab something extra!
Declutter the Bathroom and Give Yourself More Storage – Out with the old and expired products, and don’t bring in anything new until you need it. Pick up some cute baskets to keep similar products together.
Separate Your Clothes – Organize your clothes by work/weekend outfits. That way you will have your go-to outfits ready when you need them. When putting your clothes away, remember that they should go in the same way they came out. Of course, don’t forget to donate what you’re no longer wearing.
Straighten out the Basement – This is probably the scariest place in everyone’s home. Take a weekend to get in and tackle this overlooked space. Start by getting rid of unwanted toys, sports equipment, and anything else hiding out down there. Pick up a few plastic storage bins and wire bookcases and get to organizing what’s left. You may need a label maker to tag the outside of containers, so you’ll know what’s hiding inside! Check in again frequently, to make sure you haven’t accumulated more junk.
Kids Rooms – This isn’t a job for the faint of heart, get in and get out as quickly as possible! Clean off desk and dresser tops to allow for proper work and clean spaces. Donate what doesn’t fit and what isn’t being used, and organize clothes by school and play. Pick up some bins for shoes, socks, toys and anything else that they hate to put away. Making it easier for the kids to tidy up, will make it easier for all!
Pay attention to these tips and your home will quickly become a more beautiful and relaxing space for your family.
