We recently gave you a list of our favorite things to do and see around the town of Needham. Today, we are sharing with you some of the reasons we love the Boston suburb, Wellesley.
For starters, Boston is known for their annual Boston Marathon that takes place every Patriot’s Day in April. The wonderful and legendary race passes through Wellesley, where many residents (and non-residents) set up tents and chairs to cheer on runners as they go by.
Another annual event that is held near and dear to residents is Wellesley’s Wonderful Weekend. Held on one weekend in May, Wellesley’s Wonderful Weekend is the opportunity to enjoy some historical events. Although the events can vary, the weekend always consists of fireworks and a parade.
Hidden within Wellesley are many charming, delicious restaurants and fresh food stops.
1. Cafe Mangal
A family-owned restaurant, incorporating their Turkish heritage. This spot is known for their excellent food and a warm, welcoming environment.
A local cheese shop that stocks up on the best cheese, wine, charcuterie and other gourmet products. The family-owned shop has been servicing the Wellesley community since 1964.
3. Alta Strada
Owner and chef Michael Schlow, has dreamed about opening this restaurant and adding it to his list of successful spots for a long time. Alta Strada is known for their delicious, authentic Italian food at a reasonable price.
A Boston-based restaurant makes its’ way to the suburbs for the first time. Smith & Wollensky opened in Wellesley and their menu features USDA Prime steaks, signature filets and plenty of seafood!
5. Juniper
This local spot offers a delicious, Eastern Mediterranean dine-in and catering menu. Located in the heart of Wellesley on Central Street, the restaurant is a fun spot and is open for dinner only.
Wellesley also has many events that support the local arts scene and allows you to meet your neighbors.
1. Davis Museum at Wellesley College
This is one of the oldest academic fine art museums in the United States. Founded by the first president of Wellesley College, the museum supports the college’s students, faculty and other art-lovers in the world. They offer many events to the public, ranging from a Fall Opening Celebration to Stroller Tours.
2. Summertime Concerts on the Town Green
A set schedule is created for the summer concerts in Wellesley, MA. Every concert begins at 7pm on Wednesdays at the Town Hall Green, throughout the summer. Check out their website for set dates and times for the events.
3. Summer Film Series at Davis Plaza
All of the events presented by Davis Museum are free and open to the public. The events range from June 28 – August 9 at 7pm. Some of the shows this year include The Wizard of Oz, The Muppets, Mary Poppins and Beauty and the Beast.
4. Free Movie Night at Morses Pond
The Wellesley Recreation Center hosts movies throughout the summer, allowing for a fun night with friends and family.
Wellesley Theatre Project provides performing arts education opportunities to the community. They support the young to grow and cultivate through performing arts.
6. Babson Arts
BabsonARTS is the home of creativity and innovation. They host many performances, exhibitions, films and conversations for the community to attend.
This group has been connecting Moms in the Wellesley community for over 25 years. Their goal is to provide a supportive community for mothers with young children. They are operated completely by a group of dedicated volunteers.
8. Newcomers’ and Social Club of Wellesley
For both new and old residents, the Newcomers’ and Social Club of Wellesley offers events to broaden members’ social lives. Some of the events that have done in the past include Wine & Chocolate Tastings, Mani-Pedi night, Winter Warm-up Event and much more.
